Meagan Baker Thompson Attorney

Meagan Baker Thompson is a trusted advisor on governance and compliance issues to boards and C-suite executives at the world’s largest companies. She regularly prepares board materials for firm clients on areas ranging from organizational design and structure to sensitive investigations. She has extensive global experience in a wide variety of industries, including energy and technology and serves as outside general counsel to startup companies on governance issues. Meagan is also actively involved in the firm’s internal investigations and litigation practice and has advised clients on both civil and criminal matters. Meagan teaches a recognized compliance course at the University of Houston Law Center and has been on the school’s faculty for several years.

Based in Austin, Meagan has worked on some of the most important compliance challenges for the world’s largest companies. She has deep subject matter expertise across many subject matters, including privacy, ESG-related issues, anti-corruption, and trust and safety/consumer protection. In addition to her work for global Fortune 100 companies, Meagan has advised a number of startups and post-IPO technology companies on governance and compliance program development and is a certified privacy compliance professional (IAPP). She has also helped legal departments optimize performance, including developing bespoke legal operations management systems and materials. Each quarter, Meagan prepares board materials for some of the world’s leading companies and is a close advisor to numerous chief legal officers. Her talent of helping corporate leaders take their ideas and shape them into strategy and presentation materials is a longstanding asset that makes her an invaluable resource for firm clients.

In addition to boards and internal stakeholders, Meagan’s work is regularly presented to U.S. regulatory authorities. She has designed monitorship plans and helped companies prepare for monitors and other regulatory oversight. Meagan’s work is routinely provided to the U.S. Department of Justice, Securities and Exchange Commission, and other regulators to show governance and compliance enhancements following a monitorship. Her work on risk assessment design and processes has been widely adopted by stakeholders in numerous industries. Recently, Meagan designed a risk assessment process for one of the largest charity organizations, and the firm donated over $50,000 in legal services to help enhance the governance of this critical first responder.
